What changes does the introduction of national law bring to pharmacists in WA?
The Council is no longer the authority which registers pharmacists. Instead, pharmacists will now be registered by the Pharmacy Board of Australia (PBA) through its administration arm, the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
The expiry date for annual registration will change in 2011 to a nationally common date. AHPRA will provide details later.
Registration now entitles pharmacists to practise anywhere in Australia without the need for notification to any other jurisdiction. Similarly, registered pharmacists from any other State or Territory can practise in WA without the need for notification or approval.
