For PHARMACISTS Currently Registered Elsewhere in Australia

Mutual Recognition legislation entitles a person registered to practise in another Australian State or Territory to registration in an equivalent occupation in Western Australia.

Applicants must lodge forms of application for registration which include an original passport- sized photograph; certified, clear photographic evidence of identification (e.g. passport, drivers licence); certified copy of proof of current registration to practise in another Australian State or Territory; and the appropriate fee.

Acknowledgement of receipt of your notice advising you of your deemed registration will be sent promptly. If you do not receive it, it is important for your own protection that you contact the Council office before you commence practice.

For PHARMACISTS Currently Registered in New Zealand

Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition legislation entitles a person registered to practise in New Zealand to registration in an equivalent occupation in Western Australia.

Applicants must:

• Complete four weeks supervised practice in a community or hospital pharmacy in Western Australia
• Demonstrate orally a practical understanding of the legislation affecting the practice of pharmacy in the State
• Lodge forms of application for registration which include an original passport-sized photograph; certified, clear photographic evidence of identification (e.g. passport, drivers licence); and certified copy of proof of current registration to practise in New Zealand.

Upon completion of the above requirements and payment of fees, the Council will complete the Mutual Recognition process.

For Persons Who Have Met the Requirements of the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC)

Applicants must lodge forms of application for registration which include an original passport- sized photograph; certified, clear photographic evidence of identification (e.g. passport, drivers licence); certified copy of proof of completion of APC requirements; certificate of good standing from the registering authority in every country in which the person has previously been registered and the appropriate fee.

For Recent Graduates or Masters in Pharmacy

Each applicant must be at least 18 years of age and

• Have passed the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree course conducted by Curtin University of Technology or another course which, in the opinion of the Council, is substantially equivalent thereto
• Have completed a prescribed 2500 hour practical training course or another course approved by the Council
• Hold a current senior first aid certificate approved by the Council and
• Produce evidence satisfactory to the Council confirming the foregoing requirements
• Lodge forms of application for registration which include an original passport-sized photograph; certified, clear photographic evidence of identification (e.g. passport, drivers licence); and the appropriate fee.

For (a) restoration of name to the Register and (b) movement from "non-practising" to "practising"

The Pharmacy Act 1964 provides that a pharmaceutical chemist may practise pharmacy only under authority of a licence, issued by the Council, to do so.

Registration does not of itself authorise a pharmacist to practise in Western Australia. Any pharmacist wishing to practise must first obtain a licence to do so.

Applicants must lodge forms of application for registration/licence to practise which include an original passport-sized photograph; certified, clear photographic evidence of identification (e.g. passport, drivers licence); and the appropriate fee. If the person has been registered overseas a certificate of good standing from the registering authority in every country in which that person has been registered is required.

Applicants should be aware that licences may be issued only by the Council and that the Council is required to meet only on the first Tuesday of every month except January.

Licenses must be renewed annually by application.
